Thank goodness a therapist already said this to me in 2022…. The people who benefited from your lack of boundaries will always be the angriest when you set them. What I finally expressed to my family this past Christmas was that people who truly care about me would not ask me to put myself in deeply triggering environments. People who really care about me want me to enjoy holidays not just survive them. And people I really care about still get time to see me, it just won’t always be the context that’s most convenient for them.
