It is called tuna fish because early 20th-century canneries added the word "fish" to clarify what tuna was when canned meat was still a new and unfamiliar product. So if you want to say tuna instead of tuna fish, it's ok.

Because the word tuna also describes the edible fruit of the prickly pear cactus. If you ask for a tuna sandwich you might get a tuna fruit sandwich
