@arisofficehours: The academic job hiring cycle is very long and arduous. But if you’re prepared, it could make life a lot easier! #LearnOnTikTokContest #EduTokContest #HigherEd #GradSchool
Dr. Ari, I have two questions! I’m getting on market this year. Do you think applying earlier is better? And do you have any advice on making applications stand out ?

search online for Academic Jobs Wiki. people will post updates on each academic position such as when zoom interviews and campus interviews are scheduled and when someone accepts the position

All of this, and usually there's a second wave of openings/postings in the spring to replace the people who accepted jobs elsewhere. That process is generally absolute chaos...

I turned down a 1 year visiting professor position because they couldn’t guarantee a second year and I couldn’t wrap my head around starting job applications again at the same time of starting a job.

I am technically overseeing a search that was posted last week but everyone is on 9 month contracts and we won't look at the applications until we are back in August and back on contract.

In my experience the planning for a new tenure track job will start in the spring when the budget figures for the next academic year become available. The department may be planning a series of new hires that will occur over a period of several years

We have dramatically changed our visits to turn them from grueling interviews into opportunities to recruit the candidate. :)

2nd year we were already encouraged to tell our program director and committee places we were interested in incase they had friends there. 3rd year we were encouraged to reach out and offer to work a project, help write, or get written into a grant to make ourselves a known quantity, and to pivot pubs to align with projects and funding.

At my CC, our HR dept is super corporate and didn’t know about this timeline. No wonder we’ve had no candidates
