Now, a lot of hotels in China are implementing a new rule that lets guests stay for a full 24 hours before checking out. This means you can check in at 5:00 p.m. and stay until 5:00 p.m. the next day before checking out.

Usually, you can check out of hotels in China before 2:00 pm, but before 2009, you had to check out before 12:00 due to regulations. Many people complained about this rule, so the government and the hotel association removed it. Now, most hotels in China allow check-out before 2:00pm. Some hotels also offer a late check-out for their members, allowing them to check out before 3 or 4 pm.

When you travel China during off peak, most of the time they allow early check in and late check out or if they check you in late you might get a free room upgrade

We went to Shanghai. We arrived 8am in the hotel, we thought we try our luck to leave the luggage there till check in. The room was ready at 8am !!!!

We can do that in USA. Just ask for late check out. No charge. I do it all the time. Usually 1pm.

Normally check out time is 14:00, but some hotels will be 12:00, some hotels check out will be 15:00

That's actually quite normal. I worked in China hotels for 20 years. Normally is 12 noon, but if you need extra time we allow for 2pm checkout, unless the hotel is full. But even then, if we have late check-in (evening or night) we can be flexible. Reason is because housekeeping runs 24/7!

A lot of hotels in China go by 24hrs check out,ie if u checked in at 5 pm, then u can check out by 5pm the next day. Some hotels started doing it as early as in 2011. There are some debates on the Chinese internet that if this 24hr check out thing should be made the norm/standard in China.
