The killer disconnected CCTV cameras and even called police himself A man has been jailed for 22 years for killing another man with a submachine gun following a confrontation at an industrial unit in Birmingham. Theo Bailey was convicted of the manslaughter of Gavin Parry at Birmingham Crown Court in November following a four-week trial and was sentenced on Monday. Mr Parry, 31, was shot twice in the head with a Skorpion submachine gun on Western Road on 13 April 2021. Police said the 31-year-old had earlier arrived at the unit on a quad bike, but after an argument he left the scene. Some 30 minutes later, he returned wearing a ballistics vest and armed with a machine gun. CCTV captured Mr Parry approaching the unit, but he was shot before he got there, having never discharged his gun. A ballistic expert concluded the fatal weapon was likely a Skorpion submachine gun. Neither weapon has been recovered. Prior to the shooting, Bailey and Dante Kalsi disconnected the site’s CCTV system and additional footage from the site shows Kalsi removing a concealed item, believed to be one, or both firearms. Bailey, 34, falsely reported the incident to emergency services via 999 and misled officers about the CCTV and circumstances of the shooting. Kalsi, aged 29, was arrested in June 2021 when officers found five unfired Skorpion-compatible bullets at his address, along with a screenshot of a press release on the murder and prior internet searches related to firearm conversion. In November 2025, he was acquitted of murder and manslaughter but convicted of perverting the course of justice. The 29-year-old of no fixed address was jailed for three years. Detective Chief Inspector Jim Mahon of West Midlands Police stated: “Gavin Parry was killed in broad daylight after a trap was set, meaning that he would be shot upon his return. Bailey and Kalsi took deliberate steps to disable CCTV to conceal the crime. “Automatic firearms are exceptionally dangerous and have devastating consequences. We continue to urge anyone with information on the location of these weapons—or illegal firearms generally—to contact police, so we can remove them from our streets.” - @c5news
