@techniahqrobot: This young guy made a very cool modification. He took a Unitree wheeled robot dog and turned it into a bionic wheelchair for his father. His father has multiple sclerosis and has been using a wheelchair for nearly 20 years. Before that, he was a marathon runner. He loved fitness, hiking and climbing mountains. But later, even a small crack in the ground, loose gravel or a simple obstacle became difficult for him to cross. Going back outdoors for a hike became almost impossible. So his son always had one idea in mind: to build his dad a pair of legs that could actually walk. He studied many options, including exoskeletons, but they were developing too slowly. Then he found another method. He used a Unitree robot dog and modified it. It can climb stairs, cross obstacles and move quickly on flat ground. It is also more stable and more energy-efficient. He added a racing seat, a safety belt and foot supports to the robot dog. He also customized it with his father’s favorite color, deep blue suede, metal decorations and even lights underneath. It looks like a wheelchair from the future. The hardest part was making the robot safely carry a human. Because it was not originally designed for someone to sit on. Once a person sits on it, the center of gravity, walking gait and stair-climbing logic all have to be adjusted again. They spent several weeks tuning it.
