@livelymidlife: And please understand this: if a Black person is cautious around white people or doesn’t automatically trust us, we do not get to make ourselves the victim of that. That is not “reverse racism.” Black people have generations of racism, discrimination, violence, and injustice behind that caution and racism didn’t magically disappear because some of us decided we personally aren’t racist. It doesn’t matter how loudly we insist that we’re one of the good ones. What matters is whether we listen. ✨ Whether we believe people when they tell us about their experiences. Whether we examine our own biases. Whether we teach our children better. Whether we speak up when staying quiet would be easier. And if your first reaction to a Black person talking about racism is anger, defensiveness, or offense because you feel like they’re talking about you, it might be worth asking yourself why. 💛 Being antiracist requires more than good intentions.
