I also realised it's just we instrumentalists or musicians that hears passing, chromatic.... chords and head wants to boost. people just want to connect to God and music was meant to do that. if want to challenge the power of "the native" music, drop your video of where people were truly vibing to you SMG, Coza... music and I would send you one form on village using conga and pot, and you would see the difference in connection to the music. what the do at Coza is following the crowd, if one person shouts everyone follows, music with lows then one high and everyone screams and the excitement wears off, the go back to default. : the only reason you mentioned this churches be truthful is just the pay, omo you monthly salary na weekend show money somewhere in the east, and part of the west too.

Truth be told brother. I used to be a very wicked aba player, because of the nature of the church I grew up in. But as I started going out and joining music groups. I figured out I couldn’t even play with a bass guitar because Ife been splitting all my life. I chop bench in those music groups for over two years. Then I took it upon myself to learn their pattern and gradually I’ve grown to adapt to almost any kind of music, though I’m still trying to improve more. But at least now when them bring aba I go play am when them bring western too I go play am, check my profile for few proof sha. Honestly he has a point my man, normally I love your style bro ❤️.

One thing many Nigerian keyboard players get wrong is thinking that once you can play jazz, use lots of extensions, and throw in altered chords, you've become a versatile musician. Versatility isn't about playing jazzy chords everywhere. Every genre has its own style, rhythm, vocabulary, and musical language. A great jazz pianist may still struggle to play authentic blues (I'm talking about true blues phrasing and the blues scale, not just slow songs), or traditional styles like Aria-ria. You can't be dropping seventh chords all over a traditional Igbo setting. Every style demands a different approach. Even classically trained pianists often have to intentionally learn jazz because it's a different language altogether. Not everyone has to sound like Kevin Bond. Understand music theory, respect the style you're playing, and serve the music. That's what true versatility looks like.

Is it English that’s the problem? As a keyboardist, there are churches you can’t play because of the style of music. You will definitely struggle. The message didn’t say your traditional style of playing is bad, but that you need to improve on your notes and chords, so you can become versatile and fit any style of music.
