@rebecca.sowden: Budgeting is not the same as bare minimum. This association is probably why many think having a budget is something negative. #Budgeting #onabudget #PersonalFinance
Food budgets can also be all inclusive or categorized. My food category includes both groceries, takeout and dining out. Leftover funds get placed into a vacation spending food budget.

People prioritize things differently. Unless maybe on vacation, I would never spend $350/week on food for two people, but if you can afford it and it's not negatively affecting your life, then have at it. Everyone who is financially comfortable spends money on something that they feel works for them that other people would be appalled at.

It's actually so smart to use the leftovers after food spending for fun money!

Your 350.00 does not sound crazy to me. If you buy lunch at work it’s almost a hundred a week per person. For a family of 2 I spend about 150.00 a week at the grocery store ( includes detergent, toilet paper and that stuff)

The bare-minimum association is exactly what kept me from budgeting for years — I thought a budget was a punishment you served until you deserved nice things again. What flipped it for me was writing fun money in as its own real line, same status as rent. Suddenly spending it was *following* the plan instead of breaking it. Also love Stella's all-inclusive food category with leftovers rolling to vacation — guilt-free by design.

My boyfriend and I spend a lot on food because we love to cook together I pack my lunch and we made breakfast at home and then when we go out we get drinks and whatever we want it works for us!

Just curious (aka lowkey nosey lol) Did the option ever come up to instead do $175/ea? I ask bc I know any left over gets split in 2 equally but what if for example one party is more focused on intentionally having extra left over for the fun acct whereas the other is more willy nilly.

Yesssss my husband and I try for $500 monthly but we also account for eating out in it (since we don’t eat out much) it’s a budget in progress 😅

I think ppl get confused bc they think that if they just made "enough" money, they wouldn't have to budget. that they could just spend and not worry about it.
