@msbunnyteacher: I tried to say smaller and little at the same time and “littler” came out. Yes I know that’s not a word. No I still won’t touch your kid’s spit. #teacherboundaries #schoollunches #elementaryteacher #parentsoftiktok #backtoschool
This and tying shoes are firmly in the "parents" skill set BEFORE they go to kinder.

Yes!!! Then the parents complain that their child comes home with uneaten food. It’s like - teach your child to eat INDEPENDENTLY and in a timely fashion.

When you put hot food into a thermos it creates a vacuum seal. Sometimes I’ve not been able to get them open and just have a send a note home that I couldn’t do it 😂😂😂

Also, if you slice the apple for your kid at home, slice the apple you send them for lunch lol. Put some lemon juice on the slices in the ziplock to prevent the slices from browning.

I’ve told parents it’s good to do some practice lunches before they go into school (I’m a nanny) and sometimes they push back and say they don’t need it. But they always end up trying it and see that they struggle

I was a preschool director for years, and this info was always in parent orientation. I had a power point lol. I used to tell them to have kids practice at home because it’s good fine motor development.

I just need tips on how to get my child to eat faster. There's no sense of urgency 😅 half the lunch comes back home because she ran out of time

I didn’t realize my daughter’s ramen noodles were getting vacuum sealed in her thermos with the hot water 😂 at preschool. Finally her teacher told me “I’m not strong enough to open this”… that’s when I realized!!!

Parents need to start doing packed lunches 6 months before school starts to show them what is possible, what is teachable beforehand and what is a really bad idea. Also to figure out portion sizes.

Pack them something that they could eat in their car seat on a roadtrip while you’re driving and cannot help them

I remember the summer before kindergarten my mom had me practicing how to carry a tray, opening my juice box, opening chips without them flying everywhere, carrying my lunch box, etc.

I always ask “has this been in your mouth?” before I open anything. I still remember the parents who had a pair of kid scissors attached to their kid’s lunch box so he could open his gogurt independently. I hope they’re doing well.

A big part of my prek year is teaching 4 year olds to open packages and to use utensils. We have a big cheer when one of the littles opens their milk carton for the first time!🎉

Have them practice at home to eat in 15min. How to open their lunch box, practice milk cartons, also sauces. Lots of ketchup packets. I carry a pair of scissors on my lanyard only during lunch duty. Also tubes of yogurt are the worst.

Don’t tie shoes either. They come back all wet from the bathroom. Parents need to teach that

I already started practicing with my kindy and 2nd grader for lunch time. I set a timer for the amount of time they have to eat and I put the food in their lunch boxes and have the open eat clean up their mess and repack their lunch box. I’ve done it every summer before school starts so they know what to expect. My kids get hangry if they don’t eat so I want to make sure they have full bellies.
