I never understood why non working people got so much free childcare. When I worked in the NHS I couldn’t claim the free 30 hours . Was a joke

if the child is in child care then the parents can work, not everyone has support and help from friends and family and there's alot of single parents also, so if they get free child care to start off with then they have no reason not to work then will eventually be paying back in the system aswell

It’s so unbelievably unfair. I have 3 young children and work two jobs, we aren’t on benefits but can’t afford to do anything. It’s so depressing. I worked out that I would be better off will quitting the second job and going on benefits - but don’t want to do that but then why do I work so much when others don’t even bother.

I’m a teacher and I basically go to work to pay my childcare bill, so I can a) keep my job and b) pay into a pension. Make this make sense 🤯

: I work 39 hours plus. 2 hour commute to work and2 hours back. My little one is 2 year old. My nursery fees are £102 a day ! This is disgusting ! We only can afford 3 days a week. Literally no spare cash at all after this.My rest days and my husbands are looking after her. This honestly makes me sick. Why do I even work !

How about using that money to increase the hours available to working parents? The majority of parents don’t only work term time so have to fund school holidays entirely out of their pocket

Me and my wife both work and when are two sons we’re in nursery. We at pay nearly £1100 a month. And we are not on a great wage and we have never claimed benefits for nothing.

The whole scheme is totally broken and needs overhauling. 30 hours free a week is FAR too much for people who are job seeking I’m sorry. I found a job whilst on mat leave, I didn’t have any childcare. What are you doing to need all this free childcare. Meanwhile as someone who’s partner earns over the threshold and pregnant again I will be looking at 4K or more a month for childcare for 2 children meaning I have to leave a 10 year career I love and give up my financial independence as we cannot afford for me to work. Make it make sense - we already fund people on benefits with higher taxes…..
