Eye Care Tip 1: A chalazion or clogged oil gland located at the eyelid margin is often one of the easiest types to manage. I recommend my MGD Cleansing System: ✔️ Roll the heat ✔️ Scrub the exit site ✔️ Wash to help maintain a healthy eyelid skin barrier Eye Care Tip 2: There is an avoid list. Our goal is to encourage the chalazion to drain through its natural exit site at the eyelid margin. Since it’s already at the exit site, why create a new one through the eyelid skin? That increases the risk of eyelid scarring. I have my patients avoid prolonged hot compresses and harsh surfactants, such as baby shampoo. Eye Care Tip 3: This is exactly what I do in the exam room. Then I send my patients home to use the MGD Cleansing System once a day before bedtime for 7 consecutive days, then modify the routine based on their progress. Eye Care Tip 4: A proper diagnosis is essential for long-term prevention. During the examination, I ask: • Is this a chalazion? • Is this an infected stye? • Are Demodex mites involved? • What type of blepharitis is present? • Is this the patient’s first chalazion or a recurrent flare-up?
