@mistithorpe: 🚨 BREAKING UPDATE | VINTON COUNTY 16 | GARY SIDERS SR. Today’s court filings brought two major developments in the case against Gary Siders Sr. First, the court modified his bond after receiving new information about his health. According to the court order, Gary was being held on a $300,000 cash or surety bond, but after being transported to O’Bleness Hospital in Athens on July 7, medical providers recommended he be transferred to a larger hospital for more specialized care. The judge has now modified his bond to a $300,000 recognizance bond. If he is released from the hospital, he will be required to wear GPS monitoring, with the cost paid by the State. The second major development came from the defense. Gary’s attorneys have formally requested that the court order: • A competency evaluation to determine whether he is mentally capable of understanding the legal proceedings and assisting in his own defense. • An evaluation to determine whether he was legally insane at the time of the alleged offenses (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity). In the motion, the defense states that during meetings with Gary, he appeared unable to understand the legal process, struggled to answer basic questions, was unable to identify the roles of courtroom participants, and had difficulty maintaining a clear and consistent train of thought. The filing also references information suggesting a significant decline in his mental functioning and overall health. It’s important to note that these are claims made by the defense in support of their motion. The court has not ruled that Gary is incompetent or legally insane, nor has it yet ruled on whether those evaluations will be granted. This comes just one day after Gary’s attorney argued he should be released because of his age, health, and mental condition. As always, every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court, and the criminal charges remain pending. I’d like to hear your thoughts on today’s filings. Do you believe the court struck the right balance by modifying Gary’s bond because of his medical condition while requiring GPS monitoring, or do you think the original bond should have remained in place? And what are your thoughts on the defense requesting competency and insanity evaluations? Please keep the discussion respectful. There are many strong opinions surrounding this case, but the legal process is still unfolding, and there are 16 children at the center of it all. #VintonCounty #GarySiders #OhioNews #BreakingNews #VintonCounty16
