who what where and why? :
Fifa and the Olympics are to boys what the met is to girls...in both cases the tickets are equal or greater than some people's yearly income, it's deeply disconnected from lived reality of those living truly at the bottom and the disparity is only getting clearer and wider... especially when people have the privilege to express moral outrage over Fifa giving trump a made up peace prize but then play along when it comes to the actual bread and circuses of the event itself. the buck always stops short of dismantling the institution

Capital has extended its tendrils deeply into sports like Football in a way that erodes that democratization narrative, too. We have pipelines that operated very similar to militaries: rolling up to proletarian communities and selecting children who are seen as "unworthy" of traditional social mobility to enter years of intense training to provide a ripe selection of recruits for billionaire teams. The American state does it much more violently, with its college sports that maim players at an industrial scale. The neoliberal system has destroyed our ability to live for these little joys.
