@formulaperformancelab: Star Wars physics check! 💨 We put the Snowspeeder and the Y-Wing to the ultimate wind tunnel test. The Y-Wing has perfectly smooth armor, and the air travels fine over the top. But look underneath! Its blunt shape creates a massive wall of turbulent drag and flow separation on the bottom. Now look at the Snowspeeder. It is a literal aerodynamic wedge. The smoke lines are perfectly parallel with almost zero wake on the top or bottom. This is exactly why it was built for planetary flight! 👇 #StarWars #Snowspeeder #YWing #WindTunnel #Aerodynamics

they travel in space I don't think aerodynamic matteres much in space

I wonder how a clone wars era y-wing would fair with all its extra armor

the y-wing can be a brick, it doesn't matter. No drag in space. Snowspeeder makes sense though.

“No aerodynamics in space” top one is an atmospheric fighter.

I remember playing Rogue Squadron and in the first mission with the Y-Wing, it was described as having “the maneuverability of a sleepy Bantha” 😂

This is such an odd comment section. Do they think that the ships aren't used planet side at all? The shows and games have probably more planetary combat than space combat tbh.

You should try the clone wars style y wing

Wait why do we have aerodynamic space ships when there’s no air resistance in space

Y-wing is generally designed to fight in soace unlike the snowspeeder which is generally meant for use in an atmosphere, so this checks out

I would imagine the y wing has a very high mass for its base area, and that’s showing almost no significant lift. So either it wouldn’t be used in atmosphere or there is other sci fi tech in use 👍🏻

well, most of the plating from the clone wars era Y-wing was stripped off for the Allaince Y-wing to save on weight. Plus, you don't have to be aerodynamic if you use repulserlift tech.

wtf is wrong with the comment section!? the snow speeder IS NOT a space ship! THEY LITERALLY SAY in the movie "having trouble adapting them the to the cold" what is space?... ITS COLD!

DO PEOPLE FORGET THE SHIPS OF STARWARS ARE ALL SPACE PLANES?? THE snow speeder needs a bit of lift. its more of a bike with wings

No they only fly in atmosphere, they sail through space. Thats why they are also referred to as ships

Well, the Snowspeeder is designed for in-atmosphere flight. I don't generally think of how Bernoulli's Principle applies to science-fantasy vehicles, but that sucker's creating lift.

In space there no “wind resistance” it’s a vacuum, learn something new every day…
