@prairiepaul: Leaving people stranded on the highway for eight hours is unconscionable and wrong and the government needs to devise some solutions to ensure this doesn’t happen to people again. #RCMP #BC #Accident.

Thank you!! I’m glad you’re not making this all about “people being prepared”. As you’ve said, it’s one thing to be stuck for a couple of hours, but for 8 hours? I guess screw all the electric vehicles, huh. You’re entirely right, it’s not an acceptable amount of time.

I agree with your message completely. There must always be an alternate “emergency exit” because waiting 8+ hours when there could be other medically complicated people in those vehicles, like seniors or young children who may need medication (like insulin etc) could pose a whole different set of problems if left with no options after so many hours.

I actually think about this all the time. There's very very very few instances where closing a major highway like that for so long is even remotely reasonable. Traffic control. It will be slow but at least it would be moving. A complete standstill for any more than an hour anywhere is just evidence of terrible urban planning

What would happen if there was a medical emergency in the long line of traffic?

They could have sent up some kind of dry foods truck and a water truck up the other side of the road.

Happens at least 3-4 times per year on S2S. Always pack a bug out bag w water, snacks and a blanket.

Just when there are landslides on this highway, last year in the winter I got trapped for over 20 hours and had to sleep in a hotel lobby because there was no rooms available

Heading to Whistler on Saturday and I am so glad to have booked a coach bus to take us so that if something like this happens, we have a bathroom and can move around. I'll make sure we have more snacks too.

In a situation like this, they should find a way to creat a escape route for other road users. Typically the coroner takes about 5-8 hours to arrive on scene.

I agree with everything you said. I couldn’t imagine being stuck with my kids when I could have turned around and gotten a hotel for the night in Squamish.

This is why I always am prepared for being stranded a day or more when traveling through mountains. But yes, many people don’t do that and are left in desperate straits.

What if one of the people stopped for eight hours had a medical emergency? Or a child needing to be picked up? There should be an escape route
