Should use fibrefuse on the first coat, shouldn’t sand with fingers- use a block … otherwise ok.

Does it matter what kind of mesh tape I use? The ones online keep saying “drywall” but since it’s plaster I didn’t know if that mattered

Wrong. You put the mesh on on first coat when it’s dry. Not straight on then coat it ontop. It’s not distributing the movement stress at all. In fact it compromised adhesion
