I could write a thesis on how ppl who are into whump are often drawn to the idea of someone loving them unconditionally, even in their worst, sickest, or most injured form, and/or subconsciously using the media to help the brain reframe suffering as romantic or aesthetic in some way, as a form of self preservation (as a way to deal with ones own suffering)
