a big part of it is they knew exactly how many episodes they would have from the start so they knew how long they had for all the characters to grow and have an end point.

I actually disagree that legend of korra has a powerscaling issue, well, aside from season 2, we don’t talk about season 2, but that knowledge bit holds up in TLOK, the reason why the avatar is so powerful is because their nature is to learn from every nation and every bending style, and also because what they learn is passed down from avatar to avatar, (again, ignore season 2, I know what happened in season 2) the reason korra loses her later fights is because the red lotus had many benders that specialized in foreign special techniques, and then she had the mercury still in her blood weakening her and her control against kuvira

TLOK doesn’t destroy it at all, the characters develop and unlock new skills in the same way. ATLA isn’t perfect the power crawl of some of the characters is ridiculous and sometimes Aang and others lose fights they absolutely shouldn’t.

The beginning of Avatar: Aang will only avoid and doesn’t strike. He finally does start striking when he starts learning earth bending. Katara and Azula fight in season 2 but then there fight in season 3 is so much more intense. You actively watch them become better / stronger and learn new things / techniques

Tbh even then the Power Scaling is kinda still inconsistent considering Katara can make Ship-Sized Waves & Kyoshi was able to move tectonic plates, but neither feat is replicated later on in the series

everyone immediately mastering everything in a matter of days, while still paying lip service to taking years to master things will always bug me aang learns fire and water in minutes. he struggles most with earth, which takes him all afternoon. katara, with at most months of waterbending practice, surpasses paku who's been a master for decades

I want to challenge this idea. In S1, Katara can barely waterbend and is a master at the end of the season. I felt this was mishandled. There wasnt a significant time skip and her fast development didnt feel earned.
