@terraencyclopedia: In 1754 BC, Babylonian King Hammurabi carved 282 laws onto a seven-foot black basalt pillar. But this wasn't just "an eye for an eye." Hidden inside were the world's first anti-corruption law (a corrupt judge was permanently dismissed and fined 12x the value of the case), the first minimum wage (specific payments for doctors, sailors, builders, and farmers), and the first presumption of innocence (the accuser had to prove guilt — or face the accused's penalty themselves). Politicians have been ignoring these laws for 3,700 years.
