@mlc_tattoos: Today is my birthday-but not the one on my birth certificate. Today marks 10 years sober. July 7th. Ten years ago, I was given another chance at life. Before I came home from jail for the last time, I made a promise to God that I would never go back to the life that almost killed me. Every blessing I've experienced since is a result of keeping that promise and choosing sobriety, one day at a time. It feels like yesterday that paramedics were waking me up with NARCAN after an opioid overdose. I had become someone who wanted to feel nothing. I was willing to give up everything just to escape. I made every wrong decision imaginable, but those mistakes became the lessons that shaped the man I am today. I grew through the darkness instead of letting it define me. These are the fruits of sobriety. If my story reaches even one person who's struggling, then it's worth telling. Sobriety is possible. It will change your life in ways you can't imagine. People think getting sober means giving something up. In my experience, it's the opposite. Sobriety gave me everything addiction promised but never could-peace, purpose, freedom, family, friendships, success, and a life I'm proud to live. I'm living proof that a sober life isn't boring—it's the beginning of greatness. To anyone fighting addiction: don't quit on yourself. Your best life may be one decision away. Happy 10 years to the greatest decision I've ever made.
