Apparently pidgin was invented when the Portuguese came to west Africa during the Atlantic slave trade I think during the 19th century or so but there was a lack of understanding between them. Pidgin was created to bridge that gap and create understanding. The British came and kinda refined it and stuff like that. Some of the base pidgin is from Portuguese as you said though

"Lagos" was named by the Portuguese, it literally means "lake(s)". There's a whole city named "Lagos" in Portugal as well P.S I love the couple's posts as well, she's Dominican I think
