for anyone wondering where that conversation was implied to be about hiv/aids: its mostly context clues and bc Bryan Fuller has confirmed that the insurance doctor was being homophobic and making a snide remark about hiv/aids. "an infection (hiv) is not always a disease (aids)". most blood work routinely tests for hiv, hepatitis and syphilis. for this checkup Hannibal would have likely had to fill out a questionnaire which commonly includes questions about high risk sexual encounters (aka having sex with men) so I'm assuming the context here is that Hannibal ticked yes on that but no to "known infections/diseases" and the insurance guy just couldn't help himself but comment on it

This scene never made sense to me, how could the doctor be homophobic if there was never an implication of Hannibal being gay or bi in this context. Like how could this doctor possibly have come to that conclusion? I personally believe this isn’t the case (unless the director said otherwise) but I feel like he was simply being rude and that’s that
