straight people normalizing saying my partner is making it so people that are in those relationships don't have to out themselves by talking about their partner and it's also extraordinarily gender-neutral so I don't have to say husband/wife or girlfriend / boyfriend when I'm talking about somebody of unknown gender

I say "my partner" all the time I'm in my late 20s and it feels more mature that saying "girlfriend" at the this point, I'll still use girlfriend sometimes but it's mainly partner now.
