@guidepostmontessori: Being in the room doesn't automatically make you a present parent. Many of us spend hours physically near our children every day. We're in the living room, at the playground, at the dinner table, in the car. But being near a child and being present with a child aren't always the same thing, and what really matters is your engagement, not just being physically there. Presence is not: ❌ Scrolling while your child tells you a story ❌ Half-listening while answering emails ❌ Looking up every few minutes while thinking about something else Presence is: ✅ Making eye contact ✅ Listening without multitasking ✅ Responding with genuine interest ✅ Giving a child your full attention, even for a few minutes Children don't need your constant entertainment and interaction. Independent play, boredom, and time apart are all valuable too. But ten minutes of fully engaged attention is often more meaningful than an hour of distracted togetherness.
