I don’t think it was done to protect her. I also think it was a political decision to keep her Protestant sister from getting backing to take the throne. Not that Elizabeth would have done that but it was just what had to be done.

I agree! I think Mary felt she had to put Elizabeth in the Tower, I don’t think Mary would have taken the step of executing Elizabeth despite the pressure she was under. Mary had cause to be wary of Elizabeth, and that’s why she is placed in the Tower and eventually sent to Woodstock.
