@meg.beacon: I couldn’t have been more wrong. The loneliest I’ve ever been was 3:33am, holding a sleeping baby in a dark house. Until I saw I wasn’t the only light on. I think one of the biggest surprises of motherhood is how lonely it can feel. Not because you don’t love your baby. Not because people don’t love you. But because so much of motherhood happens when nobody else is around to see it. The middle of the night feeds. The rocking chair marathons. The contact naps that leave your legs numb. The endless cycle of feeding, settling, cuddling and starting all over again. The moments where you’re physically touching another human being almost every minute of the day, yet somehow still feel completely alone. Nobody really prepares you for that. Especially at night. Because nighttime has a way of making everything feel heavier. The exhaustion feels deeper. The house feels quieter. The worries feel louder. A thought that barely crosses your mind during the day suddenly feels overwhelming at 3am. “Am I doing enough?” “Why is this so hard?” “Will we ever sleep again?” Then one night I opened the map. There were little yellow dots everywhere. Each one was another mom awake at that exact moment. Feeding her baby. Rocking her baby. Pumping. Pacing the hallway. Trying to make it through another night. It stopped me in my tracks. For the first time, I realised I wasn’t the only light on. Nothing about my night changed. Riley still needed me. I was still exhausted. Morning still felt a long way away. But the loneliness eased. Because there is something incredibly comforting about knowing that somewhere, another mom is whispering the same lullaby, making another bottle, wiping away the same tears, and loving her baby just as fiercely as you are. If you’re reading this after another broken night, I hope you know this. You are not the only one awake. You are not the only one finding this hard. You are not the only light on. And whether you’re feeding, rocking, pumping or simply trying to keep your eyes open, there are moms all over the world doing it right alongside you. 💛 #momlife #newmom #motherhood #postpartum #momcommunity
