A company that I worked for offered the retractable extractors. Tower power points too. The general consensus was that any possible benefits did not outweigh the cost. Also, the kitchen designers didn't like recommending them. Too many working parts usually equals more to go wrong. Plus, curious children (and some adults!) are likely to mess with them whilst they are operating.
