The one time i texted my therapist outside of hours she texts me back and goes “i am so so sorry but im currently out for my birthday but I will call you tomorrow” and idk why that calmed me down more than anything and we just laughed about it during the session

My previous therapist, who was treating me for things like having trouble speaking due to anxiety, once got mad at me for having trouble speaking due to anxiety, turned her camera off, and ignored me so she could do paperwork for my entire appointment time ✌️

When I first started therapy I thought it was going to be really clinical and detached LO AND BEHOLD I walk in, home girl takes her shoes off to sit more comfortably, invites me to do the same and proceeds to talk about how this session is me interviewing her but she isn’t nervous. We also talk ab my nails every session and I bring her fruit to share. She’s been completely honest ab needing 10 min before she sees me bc her last client ran overtime and she needs to catch her breath and mentions her personal life every now and then. Honestly? I respect her more for it.

Can be friendly, not your friend is the way I think about it. My therapist and I share a similar love for a podcast and he'll sometimes say something along "How was the week, catch the new episode?" and if I say yes theres maybe like half a minute about asking my favorite bit or something but the therapy is also super professional. It helps me relax honestly lol

therapists reading the comments on this post, this is your reminder to voice your clinical reasoning. a lot of perfectly normal behaviour that people are bringing up as unethical in these comments because the therapist didn’t take the time to explain the purpose.

I just wanna to brag that my therapist has two cats and a corgi and if we videocall instead of meeting face to face there's always a chance they come by and she picks them up to show me and it makes my day every time

I don’t think the first nail thing is unethical just probably not the right time. Stating their nails look good sometimes can bring rapport and doesn’t harm the client.
