Academia is just another cult. Society adores and condones it as essential to your future.

Get a degree in 3 months? Thats a joke degree. Looking back at my degree in electrical engineering, I learned a ton in 4 years, there is no way to do it in less than 3 years.

College has never been about work it’s about critical thinking.

Well, no. I’m a thirty year academic. I’m not pushing against technology when I oppose learning quickly. It’s because much learning requires reflection, is scaffolded and sequenced, or requires intellectual development. Sure, want to learn to twist the cap of ketchup. Let’s do it quickly. But for the ideas that are important to humanity, time and patience are required. Separate are the social and civic benefits of shared learning. That’s for another day.

please keep in mind there is a difference between "College" and "University". Colleges typically have certificates and degrees connected to trades. Those DO put graduates for work. A 3-month degree? No. but a 9-month or 2-year one? Totally.

Outside a very few advanced technical fields and ones that require government licensure a 4 year in person college degree is a useless waste of money and time.

3 months for a degree isn't great. Sure, it's fast. The problem is there isn't time to really fully digest everything in that amount of time. Concepts tend to build on each other. If you're cramming it all in at once, you're missing a lot of the connections and nuance that come from building the education rather than just getting through it.
I'm not against online education, but we do need to be realistic about it.

My friend got an online masters degree in teaching that took like 6 months. She’s been subbing for 2 years now. Hirers know the difference.

do you know what they used to do to make chickens lay eggs faster, and why they stopped? can I build a car in 10 minutes? can I paint your whole house in 10 minutes? can I get a night's sleep in 10 minutes?

The pushback isn't against technology, it's against a 3 month degree path where the student learns absolutely nothing

You can go online - if you go online through the summer you can get more done faster- BUT NO 3 MONTH DEGREE IS WORTH ANYTHING . Maybe a technical certification

I think her point is double flawed. tech doesn't educate and current programs regardless of online or inperson dont either.
