Vinton Co. has NO HOSPITALS. There is only like 1 drs office even. This is a rural county. The county has 1 red light - no Walmart or anything like that. There is a grocery store in the county seat and some dollar generals but no other major chains even.

He didn’t bankrupt the community he was having a medical emergency and rather than the county pay for it they released him to be transferred to a hospital with higher acuity of care. He has to wear an ankle monitor if he is released from the hospital. The other ones I’m pretty sure waived their rights to a preliminary hearing in writing through their lawyers so I don’t think they had to physically be transported to court

I was the ONLY nurse for a small rural ER once. It shouldn't have even been considered a hospital tbh, just a slightly more advanced typical family dr office bc they had imaging like CT & MRI.... But my ortho dr has that in office so its not that fancy anymore lmao.... but yeah. If I got anything in there outside of a run of the mill sickness or a bad sprain I would have to AIR EVAC them outta there in the heli bc it was over a 1.5 hr drive away from any kind of sufficient hospital even when running hot with lights and sirens in the bus.
