@mementomikkie: Remembering Vivien Leigh who passed away on this day in Old Hollywood history July 8th 1967. Vivien was notoriously private and guarded her personal life from the press as much as possible. However, she granted this interview in 1961 while in Australia promoting the Old Vic Theater Tour. While Vivien stated that the theater was always her first love, she won two Academy Awards one in 1940 for "Gone With The Wind", and in 1952 for, "A Streetcar Named Desire" (a role she also played in the stage). Though renowned for her striking beauty, she never relied on that and instead wanted to be seen as a great stage and screen actress with range and versatility (which she was). Vivien was just 53 when she passed away of chronic Tuberculosis; she was found in her bedroom in London by her partner at the time, John Merivale. The majority of Vivien's estate was left to her daughter Suzanne Farrington. Vivien Leigh's legacy looms large over Hollywood even today, and her role as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind is undoubtedly one of the most brilliant and famous performances ever put on film.
