@gardening_ana: This planting combination ALWAYS looks good to me- that juxtaposition between a structure and geometric form and the flowy, loose, sometimes messy texture. I think they really show that opposites can attract!! What makes them work so well together is you get all the intention behind a well kept garden without it feeling sterile AND you get the low maintenance laissez faire look without it looking completely unkempt. My favorite structured plants are hornbeams (deciduous trees), yews and boxwoods (evergreen shrubs). SOME of my favorite flowy texture plants are verbena, gaura, Amsonia and nigella (all but Amsonia frequently self seed and have a mind of their own about where they want to sprout!) #landscapedesign #gardendesign
put some joe-pye weed in there, or queen of the prairie

This! This is what my dream garden feels like. I live with high cinderblock walls and I don’t hate them I just dont understand how to use the structure to my advantage yet

Boxwoods are dieing in the Midwest. A moth and a blight. Yews get devastated by deer. Hornbeam i have yet to try for fear that they'll want to get too tall for me to trim without a 🪜
