Country music is getting really big in the UK though. Country2country festival is very popular , Zach Bryan and Luke Combs are both doing stadiums this summer. Garth Brooks just set BST Hyde Park attendance record.

As an American who isn’t a huge country music fan, but was at one time and understands how the country music world works, no one expects country music to be a global hit. It is uniquely American, and Nashville is incredibly insular. Most people don’t expect country hits to break the American top 40, with a few exceptions. A bar song topped the charts as long as it did because it sampled J-Kwon’s Tipsy, which is a millennial anthem. Country music was built on the backs of Black Americans, so it’s no surprise that the biggest mainstream county hit is a black man sampling a hip hop artist. Once again, black Americans are the blueprint of American culture, and that is what breaks through to the rest of the world.
