There is a story of Baal defeating Yam, but there's also one of him defeating Lotan (servant of Yam). It's very similar to Marduk defeating Tiamat in Babylonian mythology. It's also similar to Yahweh defeating Leviathan in the Bible. It's regurgitated mythology.
