Where I come from in South Africa, I am Pedi, and I belong to the Bakwena clan. In our culture, we have clan names, and each clan has its own meaning and significance. The Bakwena clan is closely associated with rain, or pula.
Whenever our clan praises or clan names are called out, it is believed that rain follows. I know that might sound strange to people who aren't familiar with our culture, but it's something we've always believed. If there's a major ceremony taking place, it rains. If someone passes away, rain is often seen as a confirmation that the person has truly departed. If something significant is about to happen in your life, it rains. For example, if I go for a job interview and later it rains, I would see that as a sign confirming that I've got the job.
I know this might sound unbelievable to some people, but understanding it requires knowledge of our clan names, traditions, and cultural beliefs. If you look up the Bakwena clan, you'll see that it is strongly associated with rain—pula.
