Interesting. A mangalsutra is considered a deeply personal symbol of a married woman's union with her husband. Because of its spiritual and symbolic significance, many families believe it should not be shared or worn by another person. I wouldn't recommend you wearing your moms.

I kept my mom mangalsutra, she always wore it. And after my dad passed she kept it, once I got married I got it. And now when I wear it I’m honored to wear it because my mom loved my dad unconditionally and that’s what it represents to me. I try to do that for my husband. There is no bad feelings or naazar attached to it, it’s more a positive thing which shows me a woman who took care of her husband for 30 years.

I think passing things, jewelry, clothes are so special and meaningful. When my grandmother passed I got a few of her sarees, even her wedding one! It’s my most important things I know own! More valuable than any jewelry or designer bags!

It’s such a beautiful mangalsutra. I have had a couple throughout the years from my Nepali husband. The one I currently have is my absolute favorite. I would give my daughter any of my jewelry whenever she is older and ready for marriage. We pass jewelry down generations to generations so I think it is fine.

Our culture / tradition is we don’t wear other people’s cause they’re tied to the spouse and their energy etc so she doesn’t even let me try it on to see if I like the pattern or vibe what they do instead is place it on top of

i always thought that mangalsutra is worn all throughout one lifespan or at least until the death of one husband.... and its not interchangeable
