All jokes aside, the disc with the "wires" on it is an Arc Deposition Lathe Attachment. They are actually welding rods. It is gradually depositing metal on the end of that massive shaft, later to be turned back down to correct dimension. The reason there are a lot of them on there, is because 20 rods each depositing a small amount each strike will run for longer than going slowly and using one rod at a time. It also mitigates excessive heat build up in any one part of the work. Old tech, but very, very useful.

The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings were in a direct line with the panametric fan. The lineup consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzelvanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that sidefumbling was effectively prevented.

They make sparks. Welders use those sparks to make welds, then have their apprentices catch the sparks in a bag so they can send them back to be resparked.

impregnation/rocklanization. I believe theyre melting carbide on to the surface to increase diameter for a tighter fit to the mating part.
