@americantravelarchives: Episode 5 of America in 250 takes us to one of the most incredible drives in the country… 🏔️🇺🇸 Follow americantravelarchives as we explore 250 incredible places across America in celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday. 📍 Trail Ridge Road – Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Known as the highest continuous paved road in North America, Trail Ridge Road climbs above 12,000 feet, taking you through alpine tundra, towering mountain peaks, and some of the most breathtaking scenery in Colorado. Every turn feels more impressive than the last. One minute you’re driving through dense pine forests, and the next you’re above the treeline with panoramic views stretching for miles. If you’re lucky, you’ll even spot elk, bighorn sheep, or marmots along the way. ✨ Must-see stops: 📍 Forest Canyon Overlook 📍 Alpine Visitor Center 📍 Many Parks Curve Overlook 📍 Gore Range Overlook ✨ Pro Tips: * Drive it between late May and October (weather permitting). * Start early to avoid traffic and afternoon thunderstorms. * Bring layers—it can be 20–30 degrees cooler at the top than in Estes Park. 🌿 Leave No Trace: Stay on designated trails and overlooks, never feed wildlife, and help protect the fragile alpine tundra by avoiding off-trail areas. Trail Ridge Road isn’t just a scenic drive—it’s one of the best ways to experience the wild beauty of the Rocky Mountains, and a stop that belongs on every American road trip. Have you driven Trail Ridge Road, or is it still on your bucket list? 🚗🏔️🇺🇸

We drove it in mid June. Cold and windy but beautiful. Stop at the Alpine visitor center, the chicken chili is delicious and spicy, warm you up quick. Bring your binoculars, you will need them to see the elk in the vast tundra.

Trail ridge Road is roughly 30 to 40 miles northwest of Jamestown. It’s a fun and beautiful drive and place to see! 😊
