@sacramentourbanmedia916: UPDATE: A federal judge has ruled that writer E. Jean Carroll can receive the $5.8 million that has been held in escrow since a jury found that Donald Trump sexually abused and defamed her in a 2023 civil case. The money had already been deposited by Trump while the case was under appeal. After the Supreme Court of the United States declined to disturb the verdict, the judge authorized the funds to be released. The original $5 million award increased to about $5.8 million because of accrued interest. Trump’s legal team quickly asked an appeals court to block the payment, arguing they intend to continue challenging the ruling. The lawsuit stemmed from Carroll’s allegations that Trump assaulted her in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s and later defamed her by publicly denying her claims. Trump has consistently denied the allegations and continues to challenge the verdict. The legal dispute is not over. Trump is also appealing a separate $83 million defamation judgment awarded to Carroll in another civil case.
