Why is the sky blue? Simplest explanation on the internet, or I keep doing this over and over again. #Science #facts #stem #space #todayilearned #themoreyouknow #interesting #interestingfacts #eli5 #LearnOnTikTok #EduTok It’s crazy to me that some people still don’t know why the sky is blue. I’m going to explain it the simplest way I can, and if you stop understanding me at anytime, please let me know in the comment where I lost you So our planet has an atmosphere right? It has gas, dust, and water in it, if you look at the periodic table, our atmosphere is mostly made of Nitrogen and Oxygen The light from the sun hits these particles in the atmosphere This white light from the sun has different colors in it, that’s why you see rainbows Each of these colors have a wavelength, for example red light has very long wavelengths but blue and violet have much shorter wavelengths Now what happens next is the most difficult part to understand and the part you always forget. What happens here is called Rayleigh scattering, it took the guy that discovered it 20 years to figure it out, so it’s ok if you take a minute. Rayleigh scattering just means that when this light hits the particles in our atmosphere, the particles mostly scatter the shorter wavelengths, the longer wavelengths just pass on through. This means the violet and blue colors stay in the air so when you look up you see blue You might say violet has shorter wavelengths, why isn’t the sky violet And that has 2 reasons, 1 our eyes don’t see the violet color properly And 2 the white light from he sun doesn’t have a lot of violet in it to begin with Let me know in the comments if that made sense, I’m actually considering remaking this video until I have the simplest explanation on the internet on why the sky is blue. Like and follow for more.#CapCut
