@nclex_bootcamp: 🚨 NCLEX Prioritization Made Simple Struggling with NCLEX prioritization questions? Start by eliminating the clients who are stable, chronic, or have expected findings. Then work through the NCLEX Bootcamp Prioritization Pyramid to identify who needs immediate attention. Here's the framework to remember: 🔴 1. Eliminate stable and expected findings first These clients are usually not the priority: • Stable clients waiting for discharge • Chronic conditions without acute changes (like baseline dyspnea with CHF) • Expected findings (such as SpO₂ around 90% in COPD) • Routine tasks and psychosocial needs 🔴 2. Airway and Safety come first Always prioritize clients with immediate threats to life or safety. • Airway: Stridor, drooling, wheezing, inhalation injury • Safety: Suicidal ideation, violent behavior, uncontrolled bleeding 🟠 3. Then think ABCD After airway and safety, prioritize: • Breathing: Increased work of breathing, hypoxia, tachypnea • Circulation: Hypotension, chest pain, severe bleeding, limb ischemia, neutropenic fever • Disability (Neurologic): Altered mental status, hypoglycemia, acute neurologic changes 🟢 4. Remember U & A On the NCLEX, choose clients who are: ✅ Unstable before stable ✅ Unexpected before expected ✅ Acute before chronic ✅ Actual before potential 💡 NCLEX tip: Priority patients don't always look dramatic. Subtle findings like restlessness (hypoxia), drooling (airway obstruction), cool and clammy skin (hypoglycemia), abdominal rigidity (peritonitis), or new confusion often require immediate intervention.
