It’s called lack of time management. When you know your routine and know how to critically think and work smarter not harder you can sit for hours. I cluster care because I works nights and believe people should get as much uninterrupted sleep as possible

OK, this is literally my biggest pet peeve because when I time manage and then I have time to sit at the desk and people think you’re not busy so they ask you for favors but you’ve just busted your ass trying to do everything so you can be able to relax at the desk!!! or your coworkers wanna make comments about how you’re lucky that you have no work to do. Meanwhile, you do have work to do. You’re just good at time managing!

No but this is so real. I worked med surg and had 6 patients. Got through assessments, charting, my med pass and was just chilling at the charge desk while others were running around. I was so confused as to what was taking everyone so long

I worked NICU (NICU!!!) and I literally asked the respiratory therapist once (for the critical babies you have to have respiratory present during cares) if there was something the other nurses were doing that I wasnt because they would be in the room twice as long as me and i couldnt for the life of me figure out why. they said no they just had horrible time management and didnt cluster their care efficiently

I cluster my care, and get charting done as soon as I sit down…because I NEED my chill time. I refuse to run and rush around for 12 hours straight.

ok but do you stop to get call lights during your med pass? Because that used to grind my gears like I would be interrupted 400 times during med pass because some people wouldn’t stop to answer the light. So then I’m late on meds toward the end while they’re chilling and I just toileted all their patients in the last 2 hours 🥲 also there is never any shortage of things that need to be stocked or cleaned, at least where I worked bedside pcu and ed. Idk I’m a huge fan of chilling if everything’s caught up but I have found that my definition of caught up is different from other people’s. Part of the reason I left bedside 😅

tbh, a lot of people spend the first hour of their shift socializing when in thay hour they could get vitals, blood sugars, assessments done
