I spent copious amounts of time outlining and planning mine so I could write like the wind. I was writing 10-15 pages per day and basically spent 2 weeks straight writing and now my 205(ish) page dissertation is in the school library yeehaw. It was awful

it hit me during my masters. one day I read 1500 pages of articles only to discover at the end that it was effectively a dead end and I couldn't use any of it.

I have been writing consistently for four months and am only at 126 pages. Also, PhD Dissertations are NOT the same as Capstones (PhD candidate, 2026). 😩

Having professional editors really amplifies your writing. My university offered a dissertation workshop with professional editors. The course was so well worth it.

not only do you need a source for everything, you need DIFFERENT sources for everything to provide higher credibility. I took a full week of PTO to write my lit review section. every day, 10-12 hours straight. so much crying

as a master BSer who coasted through HS and undergrad on my ability to BS my way through papers - you can't just BS a dissertation. he's a thousand percent right that it's a totally different beast.

Every single sentence is a literal paper that you have to read and understand and summarize and paraphrase make sure that you did not plagiarize and and and also joining chain links to make a whole story.
