@cheriet03: One of the biggest myths in sourdough is that every starter is ready in 7 days. It's not. Some starters are ready in 5–7 days. Others need 10–14 days (or longer). Temperature, flour, water, and even the wild yeast in your home all play a role. The secret isn't following a calendar—it's learning what your starter is telling you. This carousel walks you through: 🥣 What to do each day 👀 What your starter should look like 👃 What it should smell like 🦠 What's actually happening inside the jar ⏳ And how to know when it's truly ready to bake. Remember: Your starter follows biology, not the calendar. Save this for later—you'll thank yourself on Day 7. 😉🫙🍞 #sourdough #sourdoughbread #sourdoughtok #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughforbeginners

BURRR :
I just started it last night, my environment is 80+ degrees, it smelt like yoghurt today but doesn’t look any different, do I feed it today or leave it and only feed it on the 3rd day onwards?

when you are feeding it are you stiring it or just putting the flour and water in it and leaving it. maybe this is a stupid question but I am not a baker so I was just wondering

I am sooo glad I came across your post! I think I will try this again. I have tried a couple of times but it didn’t work out but I refuse to let it defeat me!..lol. The problem I have is I end up having more discard then the starter dough and the discard that I put in the fridge ends up having liquid in it. I am going to follow your guide and see if I can do it this time. I want to do this so like I said I refuse to let it defeat me…😂

Hi I am completely new to this and have found this very useful. A question one the starter is at peak? Can it be stored or do you need to use it straight away?? If it can be stored, how long for and how do you store it? Fridge/freezer???

OK, but what about when you finally have your jar that’s ready to use and you use some of that to make bread, etc. What that after that do I continue the same process discarding and feeding daily??

Love this tutorial!!! Thnx! Some questions: what do you do with the lit of the jar, loose on top, open or closed? Do you use lukewarm water or just room temperature?

New here. Do you discard half EVERY time you feed? Also do you mix the discarded started to the same container and keep that in the fridge?

so once you use the starter to make a loaf, do you then feed it again based on what is left in the jar?
