It was not a genetic anomaly their bending was tied directly to their spirituality. Air nomads could even lose their ability to bend like Kyoshis mother Jessa and even Monk Gyatso lost his ability to bend before gaining it back through his spiritual connection.

I think this only applies to when they have children with other air benders, because aang was as spiritual as any other air bender, probably a lot more since he was the avatar and actually went to the spirit world

i think what this actually means is potentially genetics has less effect on your ability to bend than previously believed probably just makes it easier to access these abilities and other factors like location and potentially other factors like exposure to bending animals or maybe diet who knows

I believe that's incorrect. you're drawing conclusions based on the fact we never seen a non bender in the air nation in any of the material presented. but that's because they're Air Nomads, meaning they're all over the world. the non benders don't live in the air temples, because those are sacred places to train people in the art of airbending as well as for ceremony's. the "air nation" is a misnomer, because unlike other nations the air nation is not confined to it's borders.

It would be impossible for a non airbender to live in one of the temples. So I assume that anyone who was born without bending would have to go live somewhere else.
