This morning, I woke up to news that has left our JustAdvocacy community in profound sadness. Creashay Maart, the brave 19-year-old warrior from Cape Town whose story we’ve followed so closely, has passed away in the early hours. Our hearts are shattered. We’ve shared Creashay’s incredible journey on this page — her lifelong battle with severe lung disease that began in early childhood, the double lung transplant that gave her a new chance at life, and then the devastating diagnosis of cancer on her new lungs. Through it all, Creashay faced every challenge with unimaginable strength, courage, and grace. She didn’t just fight for herself; she inspired thousands, advocated for others, and even donated funds raised for her own care to support young children battling cancer. Her spirit of hope and kindness shone brightly even in the darkest times. We knew the severity of her condition. We respected the DNR in place and understood the medical realities. Yet, like so many of you, we held onto prayer. We prayed for that miracle — for healing, for more time, for a story that defied the odds. Creashay’s resilience reminded us daily of the power of faith, community, and human determination. Her TikToks, interviews, and updates touched hearts across South Africa and beyond, turning her personal pain into a beacon of advocacy. Today, that miracle didn’t come in the way we hoped. Instead, Creashay has gained her ultimate peace, free from the pain that defined so much of her young life. While we grieve, we also celebrate the legacy she leaves behind: a testament to living with purpose, even when time feels borrowed. She showed us how to choose hope, kindness, and advocacy no matter the circumstances. To the Maart family, and all her loved ones, our deepest condolences.
