The Brothers Karamazov changed me as a person. Easily in my top 5 books of all time. I'd recommend East of Eden by John Steinbeck, because i think you'll like it.

Happy to see youth taking an interest in philosophy. Personally, my focus on Plato would be his understanding of Socrates and the resulting influences. Then move on to Nietzsche as he was a fan of and influenced by Dostoyevsky. They pursued similar lines of thought though came up with different results. The contrast is interesting. I’m currently reading Jacques Derrida. My understanding is he picked up on threads Nietzsche left unfinished. Though he’s not a philosopher in the same sense. Keep going!!!!

I remember how much I hated Russian classics in high school. Leo Tolstoy’s *War and Peace* and Fyodor Dostoevsky’s *The Brothers Karamazov* were the books I detested the most. Yet, now I truly appreciate the fact that we were made to read them. On the other hand, Franz Kafka’s *The Metamorphosis* genuinely frightened me, while I really loved Goethe, Hesse, Camus, Proust, and Bukowski.
