Common Positions: 🟢 Position A: ✅ Patient sits upright. ✅ Arms are raised and supported on a bedside table or overbed table. 🟢 Position B (Most Common): ✅ Patient sits upright and leans forward over a pillow or bedside table. ✅ This widens the spaces between the ribs, making needle insertion easier. Nursing Responsibilities: ✔️ Explain the procedure and reduce patient anxiety. ✔️ Help the patient maintain the correct position. ✔️ Instruct the patient to remain still and avoid coughing during needle insertion. ✔️ Monitor respiratory status before, during, and after the procedure. ✔️ Observe for complications such as pneumothorax, bleeding, or respiratory distress. 💡 NCLEX Tip: After a thoracentesis, assess breath sounds, oxygen saturation, and the puncture site.
