This is one of those facts that I find way more amazing than anyone else I try to explain it to. It’s one of the coolest parts about how stars work and it blew my mind when I first learned about it in stellar evolution. But everyone I try to tell is so thoroughly unimpressed. I don’t get it. How is it not so incredible to realize that we owe all our light and our life to quantum tunneling that happened hundreds of thousands of years ago!?

"... what keeps all stars from collapsing into black holes because of gravity." You need about 20 times the mass of the sun to create a black hole. If fusion stopped suddenly, the sun would just collapse to a white dwarf.

not that I'm the physics pro here but I wouldn't say a particle is definitely somewhere. it's somewhere when you measure it. it "tunneling" doesn't mean a continuously measured particle teleports. it means you measure it outside, then you measure it in. yes?

with gravity being what it is, would enough stars and spacy bits eventually drift close enough to compress into black holes eventually compressing all matter in the universe into one big infinity dense orb? (serious question, I love space but am bad at the finer details and math of it)

Hydrogen atoms shouldn’t fuse in the sun. The hydrogen atoms, unaware of the physics, fuse just the same
